Spring (September to November) - wildflowers and mild days
Spring makes a strong case for being the best time to visit Perth, Australia, especially if you want to spend much of your day outdoors. Rainfall tapers off and temperatures turn warmer while the region’s wildflowers reach their colorful peak, with blooms at their best around Perth from September into October.
Western Australia is home to more than 12,000 wildflower species, about 60% of which are found nowhere else on Earth. By September, you can see native blooms across Perth’s parks and the Swan Valley. Kings Park alone showcases more than 3,000 wildflower species, which is a convenient place to experience the season if you’re sticking near the city.
Spring is also a good time to see Kings Park on an excursion. The Easy Fremantle & Kings Park excursion pairs a narrated drive through Fremantle and Perth with free time in the park to stroll and enjoy panoramic views.
Humpback whales also pass Perth on their spring migration. From September through November, they can be spotted along the coast and around Rottnest Island, adding another seasonal wildlife experience for guests with time to explore.

Summer (December to February) - sunshine and city energy
Summer in Perth is hot, dry and built for sunshine, with daytime temperatures often climbing above 86°F (30°C). By afternoon, the Fremantle Doctor frequently sweeps in from the Indian Ocean. This cooling sea breeze is such a familiar part of local summer weather that it has earned its own nickname.
Those sunny days make Perth’s coastline particularly tempting. Cottesloe Beach, one of the area’s best-known beaches, combines white sand with clear water for a day by the sea.
The season also brings some of Perth’s biggest cultural events. Fringe World fills venues across the city with comedy, theater, music and other performances from January into February, while Perth Festival adds more arts events in February.
Princess’s Best of Perth and Fremantle is an eight-hour, moderately active excursion that covers a lot of ground. The motorcoach drives past Fremantle Prison, which convicts built in the 1850s and which is now part of the UNESCO-listed Australian Convict Sites, and past the Round House, Western Australia’s oldest building. Guests then enjoy free time in Kings Park and central Perth before returning to Fremantle on a Swan River cruise.
During your free time in central Perth, you might admire the Perth Mint or relax at a local café before boarding the riverboat.
Autumn (March to May) - shoulder season charm
Autumn eases Perth out of its summer heat, with warm days early in the season and cooler evenings as May approaches. Bureau of Meteorology data puts Perth’s long-term autumn daytime maximum around 79°F (26°C), so this is a comfortable stretch for time outdoors.
March also brings art to the shoreline at Cottesloe Beach. Sculpture by the Sea transforms the sand, sea wall and surrounding lawns into an outdoor sculpture park, with works by Australian and international artists.
The cooler turn in the weather also suits a trip into the Swan Valley. Princess’s West Coast Wineries excursion visits two wineries, where guided cellar-door tastings introduce you to wines produced in Western Australia’s oldest wine region.
Winter (June to August) - mild days, quieter pace
Winter brings Perth its coolest and wettest weather, but daytime temperatures still remain mild by many standards. Perth Metro ranges from about 65°F to 67°F (18.5°C to 19.5°C) for daily highs between June and August, with most of the city’s annual rainfall concentrated around these months. Many guests love to travel during this time of year to enjoy the milder temperatures, especially when they want to see wildlife and take part in cooler outdoor activities.
Cooler days are also a welcome change for many wildlife-focused outings. Princess’s Caversham Wildlife Park & River Cruise takes you through the Swan Valley to see native Australian animals such as koalas and kangaroos. The return journey follows the Swan River toward Fremantle, passing the waterfront homes of Millionaires’ Row and the Pelican Point Bird Sanctuary along the way.
Spring may be the ideal season for mild weather and wildflowers, but there are exciting events and views to enjoy year-round. Summer brings festivals and long sunny days, autumn suits a Swan Valley wine tasting and winter offers mild conditions for wildlife encounters and a Swan River cruise.
