Trolley & Granåsen Ski-Jumping Arena

This short but sweet tour of Trondheim certainly packs a punch, starting in the city center when you will board the historic Gråkall Line Trolley. This amazing streetcar was put into retirement for two years in the late Eighties, but the community fought for its existence, and it was brought back into service.

The trolley runs all the way to Lian in Bymarka, Trondheim's most popular summer and winter recreation area, so sit back and enjoy the view. You will pass picturesque wooden houses painted in vivid colors, many of which were re-built after the fire that ravaged the town in 1842. The trolley will also pass the old fortifications dating back to the 16th century, before it climbs Byåsen Hill for splendid views of the River Nidelva, the cathedral and Trondheim fjord.

On arrival at the Granåsen Ski-jumping Arena, which was opened in 1991, you will take your seat in the bleachers to view young athletes demonstrating their energetic ski- jumping technique. Granåsen is a year round arena even when there is no snow, because the jumps are equipped with porcelain tracks and artificial grass.

After you have enjoyed this impressive demonstration, you will return to the city, passing through more of the city, enabling you to catch a glimpse of life in Norway.
