Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Your tour begins as you embark from the cruise ship pier at Portage Cove, at the foot of Fort William H. Seward, a National Historic Site.

Your local guide will show you the highlights of the fort, founded in the early 20th century to anchor America's border claims during the turbulent Gold Rush era. Since the US Army left in 1942, the fort has undergone a series of transitions and today is the most interesting and prestigious neighborhood in the Haines townsite. Sights include the old barracks buildings, Soap Suds Alley and "Officers Row." These buildings overlook the nine-acre parade grounds, Lynn Canal and the Chilkoot Mountains. The area features a number of outdoor art installations, restaurants and shops and your guide will bring you up-to-date on the happenings in Haines and the fort.

The guided tour ends at the delightful Hammer Museum and admission is included. Make your way inside to meet the curator and find out why small, remote Haines is the home to this quirky museum dedicated to man's first tool. The museum collection spans history from the Egyptian pyramids to the Space Age. There is something for everyone and you'll be sure to leave with a smile on your face.

Special Notes:
