How Does Princess Upgrade Work?

  1. Check whether your cruise is eligible for bidding on an upgrade.
  2. Browse through the upgrade options available and place your bid(s) to upgrade your stateroom on your upcoming cruise. Making a bid on multiple staterooms will increase your chances of being upgraded, but you’ll only pay for one.
  3. Get notified via email if your request for an upgrade has been approved. If your bid is accepted, you’ll be charged for the upgrade. If not, you’ll enjoy the stateroom you already have and won’t be charged anything additional.

Your bid is priced per person and based on two guests per stateroom for the length of your cruise. 3rd and 4th guests in a stateroom are upgraded without additional cost.

To be eligible to submit a bid you need to meet the following requirements:

  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • The booking must be paid in full.
  • The voyage must be at least five days within final payment.

  1. How do I check whether my cruise is eligible for Princess Upgrade?
    You should receive an email invitation after all eligibility requirements are met and have opted-in to receive marketing emails from Princess. If you meet all the eligibility requirements but still cannot access the bidding site, please check with your travel advisor as a small number of travel agencies have elected to limit access partially or fully to this program. You can also check the eligibility of your cruise on the Princess Upgrade site directly.
  2. How do I get a Princess Upgrade invitation email?
    To receive an email invitation, you must meet all eligibility requirements and have opted-in to receive marketing emails from Princess.
  3. Can I place multiple bids?
    Yes, you can place bids on multiple stateroom types but cannot bid on an individual stateroom type more than once.
  4. Can I modify or cancel my bid after I submit it?
    Yes, you may modify or cancel your bid up until one day before departure, provided that your bid hasn’t already been accepted and your credit card has not been charged.
  5. Is my bid in addition to what I’ve already paid for my cruise?
    Yes, any amount you bid for an upgrade is in addition to the cost of your original booking.
  6. Is the amount of the bid per person per day or for the whole cruise?
    The amount is per guest for the entire duration of the cruise. Bids are based on two guests per stateroom.
  7. Is the bid amount always in U.S. dollars?
    It's the same currency as your paid cruise fare.
  8. How much do I pay if my reservation includes more than two guests?
    The bid amount submitted will be per guest but only for the first and second guests in the stateroom.
  9. What happens if I am sailing solo?
    You will be charged 200% of your bid amount.
  10. Why do I need to provide a credit card to secure a bid?
    Princess Upgrade requires guests to provide a credit card to secure and validate your bid. Your credit card will not be charged. You’ll only be directed to make the payment if your bid has been accepted.
  11. How can I change the credit card that I used to submit a bid?
    You’ll need to cancel and re-submit your bid(s) using the new payment information.
  12. Can I use my Future Cruise Credit as payment for my upgrade?
    Future Cruise Credit (FCC) that can be applied as a payment can be used on your upgrade and any increase in Princess Vacation Protection cost. When you make your bid, you can request that your payment be made with your FCC. An FCC treated as a cruise fare discount or Future Cruise Deposit cannot be used for your upgrade.
  13. Does the upgrade include any additional promotions?
    No. The upgrade doesn’t include any additional perks. However, you get to keep any promotions you already have.
  14. I’m booked in an interior stateroom with a Future Cruise Deposit (FCD) applied to my booking. If I upgrade to a balcony stateroom, do I receive the higher value onboard credit under the FCD program?
    No. The Future Cruise Deposit onboard credit does not increase if you upgrade.
  15. Do I need to create a user profile or login to access Princess Upgrade?
    No. You have direct access from your invitation emails. There’s a single sign-on from Cruise Personalizer. And only a booking number and last name are required to log in from princess.com.
  16. Will I receive all the amenities of a Club Class Mini Suite or a full suite if I am upgraded to such categories?
    Yes! You will receive all the amenities of the upgraded stateroom category. However, you will not receive double cruise credits for a full suite with the upgrade.
  17. Can I choose the location or specific features of the upgraded stateroom?
    No, stateroom location and amenities will depend on availability. We can’t guarantee a specific stateroom location within the upgraded category.
  18. What happens if I’m part of a group or traveling with another reservation?
    Each bid is considered individually. That means we can’t guarantee that all (or any) reservations traveling together will be upgraded. And even if all reservations are upgraded, we can’t promise that all the upgraded staterooms will be close together.
  19. When will I know if my bid is accepted?
    Your bid can be accepted anytime from the moment it is submitted up until one day before departure.
  20. What happens when my bid is accepted?You’ll receive a bid acceptance email letting you know that your upgrade will be processed, and you’ll receive a new booking confirmation within two business days. This confirmation will provide your new stateroom location and your balance is due within 48 hours.
  21. How do I pay for my upgrade?
    You have four ways to pay:
    1. Use Future Cruise Credit.
    2. Pay through your Cruise Personalizer 24/7.
    3. Have your travel advisor pay through POLAR Online.
    4. Call our Contact Center at 1-800-Princess (774-6237).
  22. If I have two reservations can I bid once and if accepted, cancel the second reservation and move the guests into the upgraded cabin?
    No, you will need to submit two separate bids and they will be considered independently. We can’t guarantee that both reservations will be upgraded, and in the case that one does, you cannot move the other guests into the upgraded stateroom. All reservations cancelled within the penalty period will be subject to cancellation fees.
  23. What happens if my bid is not accepted?
    Nothing. You won’t be charged any additional amount, and you’ll stay in the stateroom you originally booked.
  24. What happens if I purchased travel protection?
    If you have Princess Vacation Protection on your current booking, you will automatically be charged to cover the upgrade cost. If you have travel protection through your travel advisor, contact them to add your upgrade to your coverage.
  25. Will I need to get a new Medallion at the pier if it has shipped or I received it already before I was informed about my upgrade?
    No. Your Medallion will be automatically updated with the new stateroom number.
