Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Your tour begins as you board your motorcoach for a scenic 30-minute drive to a traditional Greek restaurant in the countryside of Corfu island. En route, you'll drive through the fertile countryside of Corfu.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, you'll sample ouzo, the traditional Greek aperitif, accompanied by Corfu olives, feta cheese and village bread. You'll observe demonstrations of traditional Greek cooking and learn how to prepare a classic menu, including tzaziki (cucumbers, garlic, yogurt), taramosalata (made with codfish roe), horiatiki (Greek salad) and moussaka (layers of minced beef with vegetables and white bechamel sauce). Then you'll sit down to this traditional feast accompanied by wine, fruit, and coffee.

With a delicious meal and a satisfying lesson behind you, you'll drive to the Old Fortress. During the period of the 6th and 13th century A.D, Corfu stood within the fortifications of the Old Fortress. Built by the Byzantines, it was reinforced by the Venetians and later by the British. Although much has been destroyed, the Venetian insignia still remains, as do the lower ramparts and a steel bridge that connects the fortress to the city.

Your next stop is Corfu Town. Best seen on foot, the old town is a mixture of the medieval and the modern. With a guide by your side, you'll tour Old Corfu Town and see the Esplanade (planted with palms and eucalyptus, the English cricket pitch, and the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, once home to Corfu's British rulers. You're free to follow the narrow streets and small plazas to the church of St. Spyridon, the final resting place of the island's patron saint.

Your tour concludes with a walk back to your motorcoach and a relaxing drive through the colonial town passing the New Fortress. You'll continue past the old Governor's mansion and Esplanade Square and return to the pier.
