Board your motorcoach at the pier and travel north along the highway to Santiago de Compostela. An English-speaking coordinator will be onboard with you for the drive, during which time you'll be given some information about the attractions. City maps are provided for your convenience. You'll disembark at the city's bus terminal.
Once at the terminal you'll be directed towards St. James Cathedral and the historic center of the city, an approximately 15-minute walk away.
The cathedral was a site for Christian pilgrimage during the Middle Ages as according to the tradition, the Apostle St.James was buried in Galician soil, in the place where centuries later the Cathderal was built dedicated to its figure. The original church was a 12th century Romanesque building, but additions over the ages have altered the cathedral. The ornate Obradoiro façade, which is the most recognisable image of the temple and hides the original Romanesque façade, dates from the 18th century, and highlights the monumentality of the building with its verticality and symmetry.
Spend the morning as you like. You'll have approximately four hours to explore Santiago de Compostela independently. Lunch is on your own.
