Your tour begins as your board your motorcoach for a scenic 20-minute drive to Vittoriosa, one of the older towns of Malta. Known as one of the "Three Cities," Vittoriosa has been a principal maritime town for the last 400 years. You'll enter through the Three Gates of the fortifications and climb to the main courtyard to begin your guided walk.
Together with your guide, you'll walk to Freedom Monument, a monument honoring the end of the 179-year Anglo-Maltese relationship. Just behind the monument is St. Lawrence Parish Church.
Built in the 1400's, the Parish Church was taken over by the Knights of Malta in 1530 and later destroyed by fire. The present structure was constructed in the 17th-century and is dedicated to St. Lawrence, the patron saint of the town. The interior is covered with red marble and beautiful paintings adorn its chapels.
A short walk brings you to Vittoriosa Square. You'll walk through this charming town square and marvel at stunning architectural decorations. In the center, you'll find a small white statue of St. Lawrence and the green Victory Monument commemorating the Great Siege of 1565.
A short walk away is Inquisitor's Palace. The Palace began as a law court and later served as the seat of the 63 inquisitors who held office and resided there. Considered Apostolic delegates, they were sent to Malta by the Pope to crush any unorthodox beliefs on religious matters. You'll witness the vaulted colonnaded courtyard, dungeons complete with prisoner graffiti, and the courtroom with its unusually low door that forced the accused to bow low upon entering. During the British period, the Inquisitor's Palace served as an officer's mess, and later was also occupied by Dominican friars.
Your tour continues with a 30 minute drive to Mdina, the former capital of Malta. Upon arrival, you'll walk to the Knights of Malta Museum where you'll see an accurate re-creation of 14th and 15th-century life in Malta, situated in the former 17th-century Palazzo Costanzo, once home to the Costanzo family. Today, the palace has been restored to its original splendor, and is a perfect museum site to depict medieval times.
As sightseeing can work up a hearty appetite ,you'll walk just right outside Mdina for a first-class restaurant.
Il-Veduta is blessed with unparalleled views of two-thirds of Malta, directly overlooking the countryside and distant 180 degree sea views. Situated very close to the fortifications of Malta's old capital, Mdina, the restaurant has become a household name among families looking for the perfect lunch venue.
A stroll through Mdina brings you to many sites, including the ramparts that envelope the city, strategically built on a high plateau for protection.
Your tour concludes with a walk back to your motorcoach, and a relaxing drive back to the pier. With Malta behind you, you leave with a myriad of unforgettable memories of a lifetime.
