What you will visit:
Valletta
Valletta, the capital city of Malta, is considered a masterpiece of baroque town planning. Named the European City of Culture for 2018, Valletta has one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world.
Upper Barrakka Gardens
An oasis of calm in the bustling city of Valletta, this lush parkland with beautifully manicured gardens, monuments and statues, was originally created in the late 16th century as a tranquil haven for the knights from the nearby Auberge d'Italie.
Mdina
The former capital of Malta, Mdina (pronounced um-DEE-na) is a medieval walled city perched on a hilltop like a wedding cake and surrounded by bastions and ramparts. Often called the "Silent City," Mdina is sleepy and serene, and a walk through the town is like stepping back in time.
What you will see along the way:
The beautiful surroundings and wonderful scenery that are hallmarks of Malta are on full display during this panoramic tour that takes in the country's architectural highlights as well as its natural beauty and stunning ocean vistas.
Photo Opportunity:
St. John's Co-Cathedral
Focus your lens on the exterior of Valletta's iconic landmark, the perfect subject for architecture buffs wanting to photograph its rather austere, baroque façade.
Mosta
You'll stop to photograph the city's storied rotunda church with a huge, unsupported dome, one of the largest in the world. During World War II, the church received a direct hit by two bombs, both of which went right through the building but inexplicably did not explode.
Lunch:
In the charming town of Rabat, you'll savor a traditional three-course meal. Begin with the soup of the day, then choose either a chicken or traditional meat dish accompanied by a robust glass of wine and followed by a sweet dessert treat.
Shopping:
During independent exploration, you'll have an opportunity to shop for mementos such as blown glass objets d'art, delicious Maltese nougat, and pottery and ceramic goods.
