WHAT YOU VISIT
Miramare Castle
Built between 1856 and 1860, the lovely home of Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg and his wife Carlotta boasts Gothic, Medieval and Renaissance elements. An inside visit offers a look at the magnificent rooms that still display original furnishings, works of art, and décor and precious objects dating to the mid-19th century.
St. Giusto Cathedral
Perched atop Capitoline Hill stands two Romanesque basilicas built between the 9th and 11th centuries with a nave added in the 14th century. A significant symbol of the Christian community, the campanile is adorned with a delicate and elegant Gothic rose window added in the 14th century.
Walking Tour of Trieste
With your guide you'll take in such sights as the 18th century Greek Orthodox Church of San Nicolò; the 19th century Galleria del Tergesteo, home to elegant shops and galleries; the Piazza Borsa, the city's financial center since the 19th century; and the former Jewish Ghetto, which dates back to 1695. This pleasant stroll brings you to the Teatro Verdi and the Café Tommaseo, both erected in the 19th century. Your excursion ends with the famous Roman Theater. Built between the first and second centuries, the monumental theater once accommodated 6,000 spectators. Guests who wish to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so, but must make their own way back to the ship.
