WHAT YOU VISIT
Postojna Caves
The town of Postojna boasts the other-worldly attraction known as the Postojna Caves, a subterranean fantasyland of stalactites and stalagmites carved by the Pivka River over thousands of centuries. While the cave system is 24 kilometers long, only approximately five kilometers is traversed by a train that takes visitors through the cave; the remaining 1,500 meters can be navigated on foot and with a guide. Your adventure begins with a relaxing coach ride from Trieste to Slovenia. When you arrive, you'll board the world's only double-tracked cave railway, which has been operating for 140 years. During the 90-minute tour, you'll learn about the cave's geological history and view the spectacular terrestrial phenomenon called the Skyscraper-a 16-meter-high pure white stalagmite that's estimate to be 150,000 years old. You'll also see the world's oldest underground post office in the world.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
The caves are also home to the olm – a pale, blind eel-like salamander that lives only in the waters that flow underground from Trieste through southern Slovenia and onto Croatia.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Sit back and relax as the coach travels a scenic route from Trieste to the picturesque town of Postojna.
