WHAT WHAT YOU VISIT
Duino Castle
Erected during the 14th century on the ruins of a Roman military outpost, the castle sits atop a cliff overlooking the Gulf of Trieste in the seaside resort of Duino. Originally built for the noble Lords of Walsee it's been the home of the aristocratic von Thurn und Taxis family since the 19th century. A guided tour includes a look at memorabilia collected over the centuries and the lovely gardens whose lush trees are embellished with period statues and panoramic terraces.
Spessa Castle
Nestled on a magnificent hillside in Capriva del Friuli in Gorizia, the 1,100-year-old castle has been producing top-quality wines since the 14th century. Today, 30 hectares of vineyards are cultivated with merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc grapes. During your tour, you'll be invited into the prestigious wine cellar for a sampling of red and white wines with a stop in the wine shop.
