WHAT YOU VISIT
Ljubljana
Slovenia's capital city dates to the 12th century and boasts a welcoming mix of beauty, history, art and architecture. Once in Slovenia's capital city you'll embark on a guided walking tour. Here, a delightful mix of architectural styles sits peacefully side by side, dictated not by invasion or time but by Mother Nature. Powerful earthquakes have played a major role in the design of Ljubljana. The violent quake of 1511 destroyed many old medieval structures, which were then rebuilt in the prevailing Renaissance style. Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings also line the streets, and keep your eyes open for works of art by famous architect and native son Joe Plecnik who gave the city its 20th century identity.

Lake Bled
Known for its alpine beauty, the views across the crystal blue lake are stunning with panoramic views of the island and beyond. Enjoy free time to walk along the lake, sample some of the local cuisine or enjoy a visit of the medieval castle, built on a precipice overlooking the lake entrance fees and meals are not included).

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
As you walk the picturesque streets you may notice that the city's coat of arms – a castle surmounted by a large dragon. A stylized version of the imposing Ljubjana Castle forms the base and the dragon may be a reference to St. George.  Another legend suggests that it represents the mythical Jason and the Argonauts who passed this way after finding the Golden Fleece.

LUNCH
You may wish to treat yourself to local favorites like potica (po-tee-sha), a nut roll filled with a variety of ingredients such as walnuts, poppy seeds, and cherry being the most common.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Sit back and relax as your northeasterly route travels through Trieste's city streets and out into the picturesque countryside.
