Step onto Mungalla Station and immerse yourself in an unforgettable Aboriginal cultural experience unlike any other. Nestled in the heart of Nywaigi Country in North Queensland, this powerful tour invites you to connect with the rich traditions, deep spirituality, and compelling history of the Nywaigi people.
Your journey begins with the captivating story of the Nywaigi Nation and the unlikely alliance formed with Irish settler James Cassady. Learn about the turbulent times of European settlement, the brutal confrontations that took place, and the vital role the Cassady family played in protecting and supporting our people.
From there, we take you to the breathtaking Mungalla Wetlands-a natural haven undergoing incredible environmental restoration. Walk through these thriving ecosystems as our guides share stories of land healing and show you the astonishing array of birdlife and wildlife, including kangaroos, goannas, and, occasionally, crocodiles in their natural habitat.
Gain insight into traditional Aboriginal bush medicine, passed down through countless generations, and see how ancient knowledge continues to thrive in the modern world.
Returning to the historic Mungalla Homestead, you'll be treated to a gourmet bbq meal featuring unique Australian flavours-crocodile, kangaroo, barramundi, premium steaks, and fresh salads. Enjoy morning and afternoon tea, paired with a selection of fine Australian wines and beers.
In the afternoon, explore the award-winning "Captive Lives" Exhibition, an emotional and eye-opening museum experience that traces the history of Aboriginal people in sideshow exhibitions during the 19th and 20th centuries. Stroll through our Nywaigi Artist Store, where local Indigenous art and crafts tell stories as old as the land itself.
Finish the day with a hands-on cultural activity: boomerang throwing, guided by our friendly and skilled Nywaigi hosts.
