Bask in the glow of the warm Caribbean sun during a relaxing cruise to Virgin Gorda, the third largest of the British Virgin Islands, to visit the Baths, a magnificent slice of heaven on earth that must be seen to be believed. Start this half-day excursion by boarding a motorized boat for a refreshing ride heading south across Sir Francis Drake Channel. Marvel at the vibrant blue water and splendid painting-like tableaux created where sea, land and sky cross paths.
Eventually, dock at lovely Virgin Gorda, an eight-and-a-half mile long island, making it the third largest in this unique archipelago. As you disembark, take in the striking slopes that tumble from Gorda Peak to the crystalline waters far below and the island's natural, free-flowing beauty. Hop on an open-air safari bus to continue on to the Baths, the most famous destination on this breathtaking landmass, which also features a bevy of elegant hotels, beachside inns and luxury resorts, some accessible by boat alone, and an array of enticing restaurants.
After driving a short distance, arrive at Virgin Gorda's main attraction, the Baths. Originally shaped through volcanic activity, this unusual geologic formation consists of massive granite boulders, some even larger than houses, piled up in stacks and clusters on the beach, which naturally creates awe-inspiring, intimate grottos, stunning beaches and oasis-like pools between them. Worn smooth with time, the super-size rocks lie in such perfect position, they seem to have been placed by giants. Here, enjoy time to follow the spectacular trails that gradually wind their way through this fascinating and romantic place. Rejuvenate in the wonderful, secluded pools and explore the dazzling grottos that add an air of mystery to this resplendent destination. Out on the beaches, swim (weather permitting), frolic, sun and relax on virgin sand as the bright turquoise water dances along the shore. Before returning to Tortola, savor a fresh fruit juice or rum punch as you soak up the abundance of amazing imagery in this truly beautiful slice of paradise.
