Among the many fascinating sights you'll encounter during your stay in Tokushima none may be are as spellbinding as the Otsuka Museum of Art and the Naruto Whirlpools. Both are celebrated as works of art. One showcases the creative talents of man while the other boasts the tumultuous power of Mother Nature.

Experience both worlds during a day-long sojourn to the town of Naruto, the northeastern most city on Shikoku Island. And don't forget the camera - this full-day outing will provide camera buffs with one extraordinary photo opportunity after another.

Your day begins as your coach heads north out of Tokushima. Sit back and relax as mile after scenic mile passes by your window. About an hour later you'll arrive at the Otsuka Museum of Art - home to some of the world's greatest masterpieces. However, a step inside reveals that this isn't your ordinary art museum. There are no canvases, statues, wood or gold objects 'd art. On display you'll find some of the Western world's greatest masterpieces reproduced on ceramic boards. Picasso's  "Guernica" and Monet's "Water Lilies" are just two of the more than 1,000 artworks displayed throughout the 316,000-square-foot museum, the largest exhibition space in Japan.

During your approximately two-hour visit you can stroll through each floor, which is divided into time periods and themes such as Antiquity/Middle Ages, Renaissance/Baroque and Modern. One of the museum's most notable sights is an awe-inspiring full-scale reproduction of Michelangelo's ceiling and "The Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel."

At the conclusion of your tour, you'll rejoin your coach and continue northward to Uzu-no-michi Edy, the Observatory of Naruto Straits, for a look at the whirlpools, a natural phenomenon where the tide swirls violently on the surface as water is forced through the narrow straits between Shikoku and Awaji-shima.

The excitement begins as you head into the observatory gallery that sits below the Naruto Bridge. Then, you'll walk to the glass floor that sits just 145 feet over the roaring ocean. From here you'll have 360-degree views of the swirling waters, which at 66 feet in diameter, are said to be the largest in the world and can reach speeds of up to 12 miles per hour during the high tides of spring and autumn.

When hunger calls, you'll head to a local restaurant where you can relax with your fellow passengers and share the day's events before you climb back aboard your coach for the trip back to your ship in Tokushima.
