WHAT YOU VISIT
Toba Sea Folk Museum
Founded in 1971 to preserve the knowledge and history of Toba's fishing traditions and culture, it's the only museum in Japan dedicated to understanding the traditions of Toba's fisher-folk, and the relationship between man and the sea. For over 40 years the museum has collected and preserved the antique fishing equipment of local fishing villages, and researched the traditions and religion of the area's fisher-folk. The museum's seven sections include "Sea Folk and Festivals," where you'll meet the "Ebisu" god, the Japanese god that brings fortune and harvest. Travel back in the past in the "Wooden Boat and Navigation" exhibit and view a collection of unique and traditional Japanese and Asian wooden boats. And learn the 2,000-year-old history of women divers at "Ama Divers in Shima".

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
In addition to the many exhibits at the Toba Sea Folk Museum, the Ama servers at the Ama Hut Hachiman Kamado are intriguing photo subjects. Each wears the traditional white diving suits, which were thought to ward off sharks.

LUNCH
The Ama Hut Hachiman Kamado celebrates the unique tradition of Ama, women divers who would catch seafood and hunt for pearls in less than 50 seconds without scuba-equipment. Hear tales of the divers' experiences over a charcoal-grilled seafood lunch.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
After a brief ride through the bustling streets of Toba you'll enter the quiet countryside and disembark at the picturesque Toba Sea Folk Museum.
