WHAT YOU VISIT
Ise-jingu Inner Shrine
Dating back to the 7th century, the Inner Shrine is just one of the many sacred spots nestled inside the religious complex. After crossing the wooden bridge, you'll pass through a Tori gate (both symbolic of leaving the secular and entering the spiritual world). The Inner Shrine known as Naiku is dedicated to the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu, one of the most revered Shinto deities and according to legend, Japan's emperors are her direct descendants. At the main sanctuary (Shogu) of Ise Grand Shrine, there is a concept known as "Shihei Kindan". This tradition suggests that instead of making personal wishes by offering coins, it is recommended to express your daily gratitude. When expressing your gratitude at the main sanctuary, bow deeply twice. Clap your hands together at chest height twice. Bow your head slightly, with your hands together and eyes closed. When complete, bow deeply once again.
Kashikojima Cruise
Sitting just off the far tip of the peninsula, Kashikojima is the largest island in Ago Bay. Renowned for its pearl cultivation, you can see the many oyster rafts floating in the water as your captain makes his way around the island and jagged coastline.
