Tangier
Standing guarding over the Strait of Gibraltar and gateway to Africa, Tangier is located in northern Morocco. While growing rapidly, it still possesses an intoxicating blend of colors and civilizations, a mix of Portugal, France, Spain and northern Africa. It has long been a place of fascination due to its rich heritage, exotic sights, stunning vistas and sandy coastline. Built into the slopes of rocky hillside, Tangier's old town (medina) is encircled by a 15th-century rampart and boasts the sultan's palace (now a museum of Moroccan art), the Great Mosque, lively souks, and a kasbah that has been the political and military bulwark since the 10th century. A haven for artists and writers, this multicultural community has also long been a refuge for diverse religions and cultures, and during the 19th and 20th centuries, it became a safe ground for international spies.
The Grand Socco
A bustling central plaza surrounded by palm trees and anchored by a marble fountain and pretty flowerbeds, the Grand Socco is a lovely entrance to the medina. Food vendors, strolling musicians, tiny cafés and artisan shops offer a lively atmosphere, plenty of local color and numerous photo opportunities in this traditional marketplace. It is here that your chef will acquire everything you need to complete your meal.
Blue Door Cuisine Experience
More than just a cooking demonstration, Blue Door Experiences introduce northern African culture and cuisine in a hands-on and delicious manner. Authentic dishes are served with stories, a taste of local life, and friendly conversation with real Moroccans. The Blue Door chefs and assistants create a warm and welcoming environment, and guests cook and dine together in a celebration of our shared humanity.
What you will see along the way:
A moderate walk through the streets of Tangier introduces you to this exotic, culturally rich city, a wonderful opportunity to get a little exercise and discover the history, architecture and lifestyle of Morocco.
Meal:
Moroccan cuisine is seasoned with long-standing, rich and very diversified gastronomic traditions. It appeals to a worldly palate and draws from many countries and cultures over the centuries. Like the wonderful spices used in recipes, the food reflects a mix of Arab, Berber, Moorish, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean African, Iberian, and Jewish influences and culinary techniques. After your cooking demonstration, you'll enjoy a sumptuous meal (sample menu: chicken/beef tagine) in the company of your experienced chef.
