Experience the tradition and beauty of a bygone era with a day-long excursion to the old mining towns of Shih-Fen and Chiufen. You'll travel to the 100-year-old mining town of Shih-Fen, where you'll learn about the centuries-old history of sky lanterns. These small, hot air balloons are a beautiful expression of people's prayers, wishes and dreams. A message is written on the rice paper lantern and then released, with hopes that it reaches the heavens. During your tour you can make a wish and set your own sky lantern off before venturing along Old Street. Then, you'll head to Chiufen for lunch and a little exploring along the maze-like alleyways. Here, you can sample wonderful delicacies, shop for crafts, and marvel at the sights, sounds and smells of this vibrant market. Then, you'll travel back to the harbor.
