WHAT YOU VISIT
Stavanger Panoramic Tour
This leisurely sightseeing tour begins with a drive past Breiavannet Lake, which sits at the heart of the city. Perched on its north shore is the 12th century Stavanger Cathedral, Norway's oldest cathedral. Just outside of Stavanger in the neighborhood of Ullandhaug stands a recreated farmstead that offers a look at local life between 350 and 550 A.D. and acclaimed as the only farm of its kind in Norway. Continuing on, you'll drive along the scenic area of Jaeren, a natural and cultural landscape that is unique to this part of Norway, with long sandy beaches and rounded stones.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
As you make your way back to Stavanger, you'll pause at Hafrsfjord where in 872, King Harald Fairhair won a great naval battle that resulted in the unification of Norway into one kingdom.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Among the sites you'll travel past is Stavanger's popular Sola Beach, famed for its white sand dunes and its nearby village. Here, you'll stop for photos of the ruins of a 12th century church. Large sections of the church were demolished during World War II and rebuilt and restored in 1995.
