What you will visit:
Sognefjell Mountain Pass
Cutting through the Jotunheimen Mountains, this ancient thoroughfare is the only route connecting eastern and western Norway. For centuries it has been marked by old stone pyramids called 'varde,' which indicated safe trails over the mountain and are still visible today. It was first opened to automobiles in 1938. Noted for its exceptionally diverse scenic landscapes, the road stretches 110 kilometers (70 miles) at an elevation of 1,434 meters (4,705 feet) above sea level, offering a contrast in topography, climate, and plant and animal life. Please note this is a windy mountain road with a few white-knuckle, hairpin turns.

What you will see along the way:
Voted the 'most scenic route' in Norway by the locals, the Sognefjell Mountain Pass, is northern Europe's highest and boasts eye-popping views of towering mountains and emerald valleys. A series of hairpin curves take you past quaint mountain villages and a tranquil fjord. The views become more and more spectacular as you climb to higher elevations into the impressive Jotunheimen Mountains. Aptly named 'Home of the Giants,' this range comprises some of the highest mountains in Europe north of the Alps.

Photo Opportunities:
As you travel, stop at several dazzling viewpoints so you can stretch your legs and snap memorable photos of spectacular sights, including Hurrungane Mountain range with some of the most alpine peaks in Norway, reaching 200 meters (6,600 feet), and Sognefjell Mountain for contrasting colors of verdant green landscapes against the deep-blue sky.
