Embark on a small-group wilderness experience to a charming waterfall lodge retreat and a king crab boil feast. Privately owned and accessible only by water and air, this 120-acre rustic resort sits just two miles across the water along Lynn Canal, America's longest and deepest fjord. For over a hundred years it's been one of Skagway's well-kept secret hideaways.
Your tour begins at the dock when you board an enclosed, custom-built vessel to cross Lynn Canal, America's northernmost, ice-free deepwater port.
Upon arrival, explore the historic Burro Creek homestead and learn about its fascinating history. Hike through the lush rainforest to the thunder and mist of a spectacular waterfall. Breathe in the clean, crisp air as you get your camera poised for this dizzying panorama of earth, water and sky. From here, you can join the onsite naturalist for a moderate hike along trails leading to more waterfalls along the 1,400 feet of pipeline that feeds the lodge's hydroelectric system (the lodge produces its own electricity and has a 35-year history of sustainability). Or you can return to the lodge to watch a demonstration of the hydro turbine generator, explore the grounds, take photographs or listen to stories of area's colorful past.
A highlight of your visit is a king crab boil featuring premium Alaska king crab, corn on the cob and potatoes all served with melted butter, and fresh bread. Enjoy the feast in the charming lodge or dine al fresco to soak up the waterfront views and serene environs. Indulge in a campfire s'more before boarding the boat for the return trip to Skagway.
Be one of the select few visitors to experience this unique combination of Alaska cuisine, breathtaking scenery, fascinating history, and warm hospitality on this premium, small-group retreat.
Special Notes
Maximum weight is 320 lbs. Guests should dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes. Participants should be comfortable walking on unstable and shifting ground/docks. Guests may stay near the lodge for the entire tour or embark on the short hike to the waterfall or optional longer hike with the guides.
