The journey begins with a scenic cruise aboard a high-speed ferry along North America's longest and deepest fjord to Haines. Enjoy spectacular views of cascading waterfalls and ice-sculpted peaks as your onboard guide provides informative commentary and points out marine wildlife along the way.

Upon arrival in Haines, join experienced local guides on a journey through the enchanting Chilkoot River Valley. Nestled between rugged glaciers and snowcapped mountains, this fertile valley has served for centuries as fishing grounds for the Tlingit people and home to generations of brown bears, bald eagles, mountain goats, marine mammals, numerous bird species, and spawning salmon. During peak salmon runs, brown bear families may emerge from the forest and gather along the river to forage, building vital reserves to sustain them through the long Alaska winter. This area is considered one of the most exceptional bear-viewing locations in southeast Alaska and your guides take pride in sharing this rare opportunity while emphasizing safe and respectful wildlife viewing practices.

From the comfort and protection of your bus, you may witness the food chain in action as thousands of spawning salmon swim past hungry bears feeding in the river. Spotting scopes bring the scene into close view, revealing eagles, gulls, ducks and ravens hovering above the water.

As the tour concludes, your guides share stories of life in a quaint Alaska fishing village during a narrated drive through downtown Haines and historic Fort Seward. Enjoy a meal your return ferry to Skagway.
