What you will visit:
Skagen
Denmark's main fishing port bustles with the activity of its leading shipyard industry and daily fish auctions. Its charming city center boasts signature yellow houses with red tile roofs, and its magnificent countryside, wide sandy beaches, picturesque vistas and thriving cultural scene attract over two million people to its shores annually. In the 19th century, a group of impressionist artists, known collectively as the Skagen painters, flocked to Skagen's shores to capture its seascapes and luminescent light.
Museum of Local History (Kystmuseet)
This museum of Local History displays home of both the 'wealthy' and the 'poor' fishermen and their families, a windmill and a life station, including a salvage vessel dating back to 1910. Visit the memorial hall with expressive portraits of Skagen's rescuers along with the names of the drowned fishermen, who never made it back ashore.
Skagen Church
The charming Church of Skagen stands picturesque in the city center towering up over the small yellow houses. It was erected in 1841, replacing the Buried Church.
What you will see along the way:
A guided walk through Skagen is an opportunity to discover its charms and interact with the friendly locals. Stroll along the harbor, the largest fishing port in Denmark, and through the historic section of Skagen, where you'll hear stories of its famed artist colony. Admire the traditional architecture and yellow houses, spy the clock-tower church.
Photo Opportunity:
