What you will visit:
Metal Torching Alaska Art Class
At The Salty Sitkan workshop you'll participate in a hands-on class that introduces you to the world of metal artistry using the CNC plasma cutter. After introductions and a safety briefing, you'll begin crafting your one-of-a-kind keepsake. You'll be instructed in the use of a two-inch die grinder to transform a raw piece of cold rolled steel into a masterpiece. You'll shape a metal animal (choose between a fish, bear, crab, eagle, whale or other option) using a teardrop mallet, bringing the creation to life with 3D intricacies as you witness its metamorphosis into a shimmering work of Alaska art. The climax of this metalworking odyssey lies in the mastery of the propane torch, which infuses your creature with hues of bronze, purple and blue, transforming your creation into a one-of-a-kind keepsake.
What you will see along the way:
Sitka, Alaska, is known as "The Pearl of the Pacific." Located on Baranof Island, this beautiful seaside town set against the backdrop of the dormant volcano Mt. Edgecumbe boasts lovely St. Michael's Cathedral and 22 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. From the ship, it's a quick 15-minute drive to The Salty Sitkan workshop.
