What you will visit:

Skalanes Nature and Heritage Center

Nestled on the east coast of Iceland, the Skálanes Nature and Heritage Center is devoted to environmental research and preservation of this vast ecosystem. More than 1,250 hectares of pristine nature reserve at the mouth of a remote fjord are surrounded by mountains and coastal cliffs and studded with plunging waterfalls, snow patches and shoreline. An abundance of wildlife, such as a local eider colony, puffin, arctic fox, reindeer and 47 different bird species, make their home among the lush flora and a collection of archaeological and cultural sites.

What you will see along the way:

You'll travel through Seydisfjordur, a beautiful, picturesque 19th-century village, first settled by Norwegians. Nestled on the east coast of Iceland, it is considered one of Iceland's most picturesque towns.

Photo Opportunity:

Thorarinsstadir

Go back in time at this ancient site where an early Christian church can be found. The excavation of the structure has shown that it was built in an early medieval European style and that there were free-standing stone crosses and a stone altar.

Special Notes

Kindly note that the running order of visited sites might vary. Views are weather permitting. This is a physically active tour which requires passengers to walk for over an hour on uneven terrain. Dress according to local weather conditions with good footwear (closed-toe recommended) with a rubber or non-slip sole. We recommend layers, the outer being wind/waterproof. Bring camera. The supplier uses a 38 seater 4x4 for this tour and the bus crosses a small river to get to Skalanes. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
