Departing from your ship, you'll take a scenic hour-long motorcoach ride through the Cadiz countryside, passing olive orchards and vineyards to the town of Jerez. This town is in the famed "Sherry Triangle" and is the home of one of the most renowned bodegas (literally "cellar," but also used to mean wine producer and winery) in the world. The town is also famous for its flamenco dances, pretty, elegant horses and brilliant balladeers.
Once you arrive, you'll have an opportunity to learn all about the time-honored process that makes the region's sherry so renowned. Inside the huge cathedral-like building lined with barrels, you'll get to see how the five different types of the famous fortified wine are made. By far the most popular sherry in Spain is the dry, pale straw-colored fino, which is drunk chilled, and diluted with lemonade to make 'rebujito' at ferias. "Foreign" tastes tend more towards the cream, which is a blend of oloroso and dried Ximenez grapes. You'll get to learn about the all-important art of blending, the making of the barrels, and then, most importantly, taste them for yourself.
After your delicious respite, you'll return to your motorcoach for a short ride to the famous Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, for a 90-minute visit. It is here that the famous regal breed of horses are bred, protected, trained, and perform.
The school, founded in 1970, is housed on the grounds of Recreo de las Cadenas, a splendid 19th century palace. Andalusian horses are known for their grace, speed, strength, and beauty, and "dancing." You'll walk the grounds and then marvel at the complex choreography as they and their skilled riders demonstrate the art of dressage during a training.
Your unforgettable day ends with a short walk back to your motorcoach, and a scenic ride back to Cadiz and your ship.
