WHAT YOU VISIT
Kujukushima Islands Cruise
Although translated as "99 islands," there are actually 208 off the coast of Sasebo, the largest concentration of islands anywhere in Japan and all but four are inhabited. Your captain will point out sights of interest as you cruise along the coast, through the islands and past Kuroshima and Takashima, two of the largest islands. Many of the inhabitants of Kuroshima are descended from Japanese Catholics who fled to the island to escape persecution after the Shimabara Rebellion of 1637 and the island's brick church is a designated Important National Property.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
No tour would be complete without a photo stop at a scenic viewpoint and back on dry land, your coach will travel up to Tenkaiho, one the most popular viewpoints in Sasebo for 180-degree views of the islands.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
The coastline of Kujukushima Island is so photogenic that its natural beauty was used in a scene in the movie "The Last Samurai."
