キリスト教のルーツがどのようにして日本に定着したのか、そして「隠れキリシタン」の背後にある歴史を学びます。まずは平戸市内にあるカトリック田平教会へ向かいます。1915年から1917年にかけて建てられたこの教会は平戸海峡に面しており、思い出に残る写真を撮ることができます。その後、島々の素晴らしい景色を車窓から楽しめる川内峠でのパノラマドライブを経て、次に聖フランシスコ・ザビエル記念教会平戸ザビエル記念教会を訪れます。1913年に別の場所に建てられたこの教会は、1931年に現在の場所に移築されました。平戸市内と港を見下ろす小高い丘の上にあり、教会や寺院を眺めながら歴史に思いを馳せることができます。
Take a pilgrimage to the island of Hirado, where Christianity was introduced in 1550. Outlawed in 1614, over 40,000 Christians were martyred in Japan between the 17th and 18th centuries. Worshiping in secret became a matter of survival, and today this sad history of the "hidden Christians" is honored in its many churches. Once you arrive, your Japanese-speaking guide will guide you through Hirado city to Tabira Church. Built between 1915 and 1917, its location facing Hirado Strait offers memorable photos. Next you'll visit St. Francis Xavier Memorial Church. Originally built on a different site in 1913, the church was moved to its present location in 1931. Sitting atop a hill overlooking Hirado and its harbor, the views include churches and temples, a pleasant reminder that Japan offers total religious freedom and accepts all faiths. Back on the coach, a panoramic drive through Kawachi Pass offers splendid views of the islands.
