WHAT YOU VISIT
Chiavari
Once a major commercial and military outpost dating back to the 7th century B.C., Chiavari fell into ruin following the fall of Rome. Conquered by the Genoese in 980, Chiavari was fortified in 1167. Follow your guide through the historic center along the narrow, well-preserved medieval porticoed areas. Enjoy outside visits to the 12th century Palace of Black Portici, the 11th century Church of San Giovanni Battista. Continue to the main street known locally as "carrugio" for free time to shop.

Sestri Levante
Founded in 270 B.C., the former Roman maritime center was conquered by the Republic of Genoa in the early 12th century and became a strategic port for military protection. Located on the wonderful "Bay of Silence" poets such as  Byron and Shelley stayed in this idyllic village, and H.C. Andersen left an admirable description of this journey in Italy. Here, you'll have time to explore and shop on your own.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
From the black slate porticos and striped facade of the Palace of Black Portici to the magnificent seaside and bay, your camera will be working overtime!

LUNCH

The menu features a welcome drink; samples of traditional antipasti and focaccia Genovese; a dish of your choice from trofie with pesto, ravioli with ragu; stuffed mussels; cuttlefish with potatoes and peas.
