Board your motorcoach and travel north, ascending foothills cloaked with pine forests to El Portillo, the entrance to Las Canadas National Park. The road travels along the mountain crest and offers extensive views to the north and south.

Arrive at Las Canadas National Park. Declared a national park in 1954, Las Canadas is dominated by an enormous volcanic crater. Dormant since 1909, the crater is over 29 miles in circumference. Mt. Teide, Spain's highest peak, rises some 12,300 feet from the crater floor. The volcanic rocks found here are surprisingly colorful: black lava, red magna and white pumice stone. The park road often cuts through banks of bright green rock. Your visit includes several photo stops to savor the dramatic scenery. Of particular note are the State Inn and the rock formations at Ucanca.

Descend from the mountains and travel through the green and fruitful Orotava Valley, a beautiful rugged space filled with gullies and cliffs. The valley stretches from the sea up to the mountains, and includes the municipalities of Los Realejos, Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava. Stop at Humboldt's Belvedere and take in sweeping views of the Orotava Valley, the garden of Tenerife. Over 200 years ago, the naturalist Humboldt described the view as the loveliest prospect in his travels.

Travel down to the charming town of Puerto de la Cruz. This lush seaside town has been Tenerife's premier resort since the turn of the 19th Century. Take a break lunch and for free time.

Visit the Orchid Garden, founded in 1774, and reputed to be the oldest garden in Tenerife. This calm and tranquil place contains many different green spaces, water features, and an orchid walk. The property has been owned by British families for hundreds of years, and even contains a garden tearoom to relax and enjoy a cup of English tea.
