Board your motorcoach for your panoramic drive of Santa Cruz City. Leave Santa Cruz and tour the Basilica de Candelaria. Built in the Moorish-influenced Mudejar style, the basilica is home to the Virgin of Candelaria, declared the island's patron saint in 1599. This holy site sits at the edge of the town centre, overlooking a rocky beach and flanked by a plaza where nine huge statues of Guanche warriors stand guard. Step inside the Basilica (inside visit pending on religous ceremonies) and view the sculpture of the Virgin Mary (Virgin of Candelaria) and the mural paintings of the temple.

Continue on to the Pyramids of Guimar. The step pyramids of the Guimar Valley pose a conundrum to archaeologists. Does their resemblance to Aztec pyramids prove a link between the New World and ancient Egypt? Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl, captain of the Kon-Tiki and Ra expeditions, thought so. Tour the site, visit the museum, and view an audio-visual presentation about this historic park, and the archaeological excavations used to solve the mystery of the pyramids.
