WHAT YOU VISIT

Santa Barbara Historical Museum
Located in the heart of Santa Barbara's historic El Pueblo Viejo District, the museum's stunning courtyards evoke the romance of early Spanish California. Exhibits and displays you'll see include western art depicting cowboys and ranching, vaqueros and stagecoaches, Plains and Pueblo Indians, and California missions. "The Story of Santa Barbara" traces the development of Santa Barbara's history from the Chumash to Mexican rule, as a Spanish settlement to the movie-making era and the mid-20th century.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
The sandstone Roman facade and adobe walls of the Old Mission Santa Barbara demonstrate how missionaries integrated European architecture with materials found on the Californian frontier - mud, stone, and timber. While visiting the Historical Museum, be sure to focus your lens on the two historic adobes that are preserved in the museum's lower courtyard, with the Casa Covarrubias adobe dating to 1817 and the Historic Adobe to 1836.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
From your seat on the open-air trolley, you can see some of Santa Barbara's most popular areas along Cabrillo Blvd, the picturesque Chase Palm Park, the Andree Clark Bird Refuge (home to 200 species of birds), and Montecito's shopping/dining area on Coast Village Road. Take in the white-washed adobe brick buildings of the Presidio military fortress erected by the Spanish to protect the mission and settlers against attack and revel in the Spanish colonial architecture of the De la Guerra Plaza, Natural History Museum, and Court House.
