What you will visit:
Monterey/Cannery Row (independent exploration)
Captivating Monterey is one of California's most gorgeous coastal cities. Known for its spectacular shoreline, Monterey delights inland as well with a plethora of historic buildings, and the iconic Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row, immortalized in the John Steinbeck novel of the same name, the Cannery Row area was once a sardine warehouse district. Today, it is a picture-perfect seaside enclave with refurbished Depression-era buildings, a bust immortalizing the author, and a colorful mix of shops, restaurants, galleries, and confectionaries.
Carmel by the Sea (independent exploration)
World-renowned for its coastal beauty and celebrity-studded residential streets, Carmel-by-the-Sea, located south of Monterey and Pebble Beach, charms with its quaint seaside setting, stunning views, and pretty cottage-like shops and cafés. Carmel-by-the-Sea offers everything from fairy-tale cottages brimming with antiques to designer boutiques, trendy art galleries, and alfresco restaurants along picturesque Ocean Avenue, all with the romantic ambiance of a European-style village.
What you will see along the way:
17-Mile Drive
Gaze out the motorcoach window along the world-famous 17-Mile Drive, a scenic route through the gated Pebble Beach community that has attracted visitors since the late 1800s. The route is famous for its rugged Pacific coastline, windswept cypress trees, forests, and dramatic ocean overlooks. It winds past celebrated Pebble Beach golf courses and some of the area's impressive coastal estates. Stop to photograph Bird Rock, known for its offshore wildlife, and the Lone Cypress, the more than 250-year-old tree.
Photo Opportunities:
Bird Rock
One of the most popular stops along 17-Mile Drive, Bird Rock is a favorite gathering place for seabirds, harbor seals, and sea lions, which often crowd its rocky surface and surrounding waters.
Lone Cypress Tree
Perched on a rocky outcrop above the Pacific for more than 250 years, the Lone Cypress is one of 17-Mile Drive's most recognizable and photographed landmarks. The enduring tree has served as the symbol of Pebble Beach Resorts since 1919.
Lunch:
Enjoy a three-course lunch at a local restaurant. A sample menu includes a starter of mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette or clam chowder. Entrée selections may include a crispy crab cake salad, traditional fish and chips, or a turkey avocado sandwich. Non-specialty coffee, tea, and soda are included. A glass of California wine is offered to guests age 21 and older. Vegetarian options are offered, and special dietary meals are available upon request. Menu determined by the establishment and may change.

Special Notes
Due to the walking involved in Monterey and Carmel, this tour may not be suitable for guests with significant mobility constraints. Guests are advised that the tour involves approximately two hours of walking. Scenic views of Monterey Bay and along 17-Mile Drive are weather-dependent, and fog is common in the region and may affect visibility. The return drive via Silicon Valley is subject to unpredictable traffic conditions on Highway 1 and regional corridors, which may affect the arrival time back in San Francisco. Transportation is provided by air-conditioned motorcoach equipped with a PA system and restrooms. A licensed sightseeing guide accompanies the tour. Guest headsets are not provided.
