What you will visit:
Hotel del Coronado
Hotel del Coronado is a historic beachfront resort on Coronado Island, just across San Diego Bay from downtown. Affectionately known as "The Del," the resort opened in 1888 and is distinguished by its Victorian architecture, signature red roofs, and iconic turret. The hotel has a long Hollywood history and famously served as a filming location for the 1959 classic Some Like It Hot, starring Marilyn Monroe. The 28-acre property fronts Coronado Beach and features restaurants, shops, and direct access to the public beach. Nearby Orange Avenue, Coronado's main thoroughfare, is lined with boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and cafés.
Balboa Park
A 1,200-acre cultural oasis in the heart of San Diego, Balboa Park is renowned for its ornate Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, much of it created for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. Stroll along the historic El Prado promenade to see architectural landmarks including the California Tower and Botanical Building. The park is home to 16 major museums, with collections and exhibits devoted to fine art, photography, natural history, aerospace, automobiles, science, and San Diego history. The park's gardens are equally distinctive, featuring desert landscapes, rose gardens, tropical plantings, and Japanese-inspired design. Admission to museums and other ticketed attractions is at your own expense.
What you will see along the way:
San Diego's rich history dates to 1542, when explorer Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo became the first European to reach what is now San Diego Bay. Gaze out the motorcoach window at the city as you make your way to the Coronado Bridge. Cross the 2.1-mile San Diego-Coronado Bridge, connecting the city with Coronado Island. Its distinctive curve was engineered to provide the necessary clearance for U.S. Navy ships while maintaining a gradual roadway grade. At the conclusion of the day, enjoy a highlights drive through Mission Bay Aquatic Park, a 4,600-acre aquatic playground with 27 miles of shoreline, including 19 miles of sandy beaches.
Lunch on Your Own at Liberty Public Market
At your own expense, peruse the wide variety of dining options at Liberty Public Market, known for its diverse local menus and lively food hall atmosphere. Located in a historic former naval training center at Liberty Station, the market features more than 30 independent vendors offering everything from fresh seafood and handmade pasta to international cuisine, desserts, and craft beverages.
