What you will visit:
St. Andrews-by-the-Sea
Founded in 1783 by American loyalists, St. Andrews exhibits turn-of-the-century charm, with beautiful buildings dating from the 1700s and 1800s and unparalleled scenery. Enjoy time on your own to discover its unique appeal, meander the waterfront streets, browse the shops and galleries, photograph the sights, or grab a coffee and soak up the environs.
Reversing Falls:
Reversing Falls may feature is a unique natural phenomenon caused by the monstrously high tides of the Bay of Fundy, a 170-mile-long ocean bay on Canada's east coast, that reverse the flow of the powerful St. John River. It takes more than six hours for the Bay of Fundy to rise from low tide to high tide. At low tide, the St. John River rushes into the bay in a series of fantastic rapids and whirlpools, but over the hours it takes for the tide to rise, the river is pushed back and the rapids slow down, come to a complete stop (making the river look like a lake), and then pick up speed in the opposite direction until there are rapids flowing backwards. This tour includes a 121-step staircase, which is optional for enhanced visibility of the Reversing Falls. Photo Tip: Depending on the timing, capture the movement of the tides by using a slow shutter speed or focus on framing the falls with the surrounding nature for dramatic shots.
What you will see along the way:
The drive from Saint John, New Brunswick, to Saint Andrews by-the-Sea is a scenic journey along the coast and through some of the most picturesque areas of southern New Brunswick. As you approach Saint Andrews by-the-Sea, the scenery becomes more coastal.
