On this guided walking tour of this historic area, you will enjoy some of the best examples of Canadian maritime comfort food and enjoy lively conversation with the local vendors.
Old City Market
Located in the heart of Saint John, the oldest working farmers market in Canada is still a popular meeting place for local residents. Known for its distinctive roofline which mimics the shape of a ship's hull, the Old City Market first opened its wrought-iron gates in 1876. It's alive with activity, and displays are filled with a cornucopia of local produce, seafood and meat. Browsing the stalls is a wonderful way to taste provincial favorites and to chat with the clerks and shoppers.
What you will see along the way:
On your narrated walk, travel along colorful streets while your guide regales you with stories behind each establishment and the attractive stone buildings that were built after the Great Fire of 1877. Many of the lovely structures you will see in the city's historic district are now modern shops and restaurants.
Snacks/Tastings:
A bundle of tasty delights awaits on your foodie adventure. You'll enjoy a variety of local nibbles including French Macarons with a maritime twist, a sea vegetable called dulse that is dried and eaten like popcorn, wood-fired pizza, uniquely prepared seafood and more.
