There may be no better way to get an up close and personal look at the astonishing Saguenay Fjord than gliding and paddling across the water in a comfortable sea kayak. This is a high intense activity and to thoroughly enjoy this unforgettable experience it's recommended that you wear comfortable shoes. And, since the water and weather conditions are variable be sure to dress accordingly. Don't forget your camera because the fjord is home to some of world's most fascinating marine creatures to observe.

Once you leave the pier, sit back and relax as you travel east through a countryside dotted with rolling hills, verdant valleys, quaint farms, and towns nestled on the shores of the Saguenay River.

When you arrive at Saguenay Fjord National Park, you'll meet with your guide for a short safety briefing in how to handle your kayak and acquire your equipment. Then, you'll put your kayak into the water, step inside the two-person cockpit, and begin paddling out into the smooth-as-glass waters.

Millions of years in the making, the Saguenay Fjord is a breathtaking reminder of earth's spectacular evolution. Carved by ancient glaciers, the fjord is Quebec's largest and the most southerly fjord in the northern hemisphere. Over 880 feet deep in some places, 65 miles long, and about two miles wide, the fjord is home to 54 species of fish including brook trout, Atlantic salmon, Greenland halibut and Arctic cod. While you glide along, you may see peregrine falcons soaring overhead or nesting on the cliffs and seals might be resting on the nearby rocks trying to catch some sun rays.

Your ultimate destination is Cape Trinity, the fjord's highest cliffs and home of the impressive Notre-Dame-du-Saguenay statue. Standing more than 980 feet above the water, Our Lady of the Saguenay measures 32 feet high and weighs three tons. Sculpted in 1881 out of solid white pine, the statue is covered in lead to protect it from the weather and is a regional landmark and considered the fjord's protector.

After more than an hour on the water, you'll return to the Visitor Center where you'll have free time to relax and browse the gift shop before making the transfer back to Saguenay.
