Designed as an intermediate hike, this 2-mile, 2-hour trek through the spectacular Saguenay Fjord National Park will leave you with a lifetime of memories so be sure to bring along a camera in addition to wearing comfortable hiking shoes and dressing appropriately.

Your half-day journey begins with a scenic one-hour drive that takes you southeast towards the small town of La Baie. Sitting at the confluence of the Ha! Ha! and Mars Rivers, La Baie was first settled in 1838. Today, its rolling green hillsides are the gateway to the magnificent Saguenay Fjord National Park. Situated along the shore of the fjord, the area was formed about 200 million years ago. 10,000 years ago, the area was covered in 1-mile thick sheets of ice, which gouged out the fjord.

The park is a spectacular sight and worthy of National Geographic's recognition as the world's second best walk and hiking trails in its "The 10 Best of Everything."

Once you arrive at the park, you'll disembark and meet your guide; after a brief introduction to the park, you'll head off for a 2-mile intermediate hike. The Park boasts about 75 miles of trails but you'll be hiking along the "point de vue du soupir," which means perspective sigh. As you make your way along, you'll no doubt ooh, aah and sigh over your jaw-dropping surroundings.

Conifers, hardwoods, the Laurentian Mountains, glacial lakes and, of course, the ice-blue fjord are welcome hosts. Looking out over the fjord, you may be surprised to learn that it's the largest in Quebec and is the most southerly fjord in the northern hemisphere. Over 880 deep in some places and 65 miles long, the fjord is home to 54 species of fish and marine mammal. Be on the lookout for peregrine falcons flying overhead; and you may just spot a resident wolf, black bear, lynx or moose making its way through the forest.

The hike culminates at the halfway point to the statue of Our Lady of Saguenay where you'll have remarkable views of the Fjord and surrounding mountains, lakes and valleys.

When your exciting venture comes to an end, sit back and relax as you make your way back to the pier.
