Your tour will start at the pier where you'll board an air-conditioned motorcoach for a scenic 60-minute drive along the east coast of Rhodes. Have your camera ready as we'll pass medieval structures, picturesque little villages and a countryside filled with fragrant lemon and orange orchards, olive groves and vineyards.
Drive by Mandraki Harbor where the Colossus of Rhodes-one of the seven wonders of the ancient world-once stood. Today, two columns with statues of a male and female deer stand guarding the harbor.
We'll also see the Marine Gate, the most beautiful and picturesque of the walled city's gates leading into Old Town. Notice the two semi-circular towers, unique architectural features that once served as guard towers. Capture the medieval walls surrounding Rhodes Old Town, one of the biggest living medieval towns in the world.
We'll stop at a vantage point to amdire in the distance the Acropolis of Lindos, which includes the remains of the Temple of Athena Lindia from the 4th century, B.C., an awe-inspiring remnant of ancient Greek civilization. Notice the medieval fortifications that were built by the Knights of St. John centuries later. As you look down from above, enjoy a sweeping view of Lindos Village with its clusters of whitewashed houses and narrow streets. You'll have a spectacular view of St. Paul's Bay. It is said that this tranquil bay is where the Apostle, St. Paul, sought shelter during a storm.
Afterwards, we'll take a break for refreshments at a scenic eatery before heading on to our next stop at a jewelry factory and museum. This unique factory and museum produces jewelry before your eyes. It also boasts a museum with an amazing display of replica pieces from Greek history, forged in solid gold. Those who wish to get a souvenir may purchase items on display here.
In alternatrive, a ceramic workshop may be visited.
As we continue on our tour, you'll have an opportunity to get a picture-perfect shot of Monte Smith, Rhodes' Old Acropolis named after a British admiral who used the site to survey the bay. From your vantage point, enjoy the unforgettable sight of Rhodes Old Town and the protective walls that still surround it.
