In addition, large sheets of pack ice in South Greenland towns like Qaqortoq are truly unique. Unlike a freshwater iceberg calving from a glacier, this is frozen seawater that has come all the way from the east coast. Qaqortoq is surrounded by ice floating in the ocean. Icebergs are of fundamental importance to Greenland. The Greenlanders once used icebergs to distinguish the seasons and even to identify cities. This is a testament to their enduring presence and to the intertwining of Greenlandic culture with our country's powerful natural environment.

Meet with your captain and sail as close as you can to these scattered glaciers that look like floating sculptures. Many icebergs in this area are home to a variety of wildlife including humpback whales, minke whales and a wide variety of birds. There is a chance to see some of these amazing creatures (not guaranteed). Enjoy a local drink with ice from an iceberg during your boat ride.
