WHAT YOU VISIT
Esparza
Founded by Spanish explorers in 1574, Esparza is the country's second oldest city and its 400-year-old church is a revered landmark with a stunning colonial-style facade and beautiful stained glass windows. Watch as dancers in colorful costumes perform a folkloric dance in the town square and, later, visit hand-made souvenir exhibitions at the park.

Tarcoles Estuary
Set at the mouth of the Tarcoles River, the Estuary boasts a lush mangrove forest teeming with native and migratory birds and 2,000 American crocodiles. Embark on a leisurely pontoon boat ride and be on the lookout for crocodiles swimming through the river or sunbathing along the banks. Back at the landing, you'll stop at a local shop for fresh tropical fruits, sip rich Costa Rican coffee, and enjoy the soothing sounds of marimba music.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Measuring six meters (19 feet) long and weighing over 907 kilograms (almost 2,000 pounds), the crocodiles are ready for their closeup. The estuary is also home to the scarlet macaw, one of the largest parrots in the world, the turquoise-browed motmot and mangrove swallow.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Enjoy Costa Rica's diverse landscapes, from steep mountains to lush farmlands, as you make your way from Puntarenas to Esparzaa and the Tarcoles Estuary.
