What you will visit:
Antigua (driving tour)
Antigua preserves its original features as though time had stood still. Because of its immense historical and cultural value, it was declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979. Located in a valley surrounded by mountains and towering volcanoes, today this colonial city is a pleasant home to cobblestone streets, houses and businesses with colonial-style façades and tile roofs, with restored ruins of churches, palaces and convents. Your tour includes Central Park, one of the most picturesque in Guatemala.
Jade Museum and Factory
Guatemala is famous for its jadeite, a sacred stone for the Mayan culture and a valuable gemstone. A visit to a wonderful jade factory, museum and showroom introduces Guatemalan craftsmen who cut and polish the stones following the traditions of their ancestors. Most popular are the deep green stones, but jadeite actually comes in a variety of colors. There is a charming museum with historical displays, and the gift shop offers pieces of exceptional quality and design.
What you will see along the way:
Relax on a 2.5 hour, narrated drive that takes you through Guatemala's lowlands from port to Antigua, with stunning views of volcanoes, fields of cattle, and sugar cane plantations. Upon arrival, your drive takes in all the historic atmosphere of Antigua, typical of old Spanish towns. You'll see Central Park, as well as other key sights. Please consider bringing a snack from the ship to enjoy during your drive time.
