What you will visit:
Prince Rupert Vintage Trolley Ride
"The City of Rainbows," Prince Rupert is reportedly Canada's wettest town, with 220 days of rain a year. But don't let the raindrops dissuade you from enjoying this quaint city with a beautiful harbor, surrounded by mist-shrouded mountains. What began as a tent town later developed after 1914 into the terminus of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, propelling it into a transportation hub linking Canada to the countries of the Pacific coast. Today Prince Rupert's population is about 12,000, and its downtown colorful core bustles with a craft brewery, charming cafés and several museums that draw on the city's rich culture and indigenous heritage.
Following your picnic lunch, return at the designated time to the trolley and be taken back to the ship. You may chose to visit the miniature Sunken Gardens Park, a charming oasis of blooming flowers and lush vegetation in a small park setting. Visit at your leisure, then walk across the street to the ship. Feeling energetic? From Seal Cove it is a 40-minute, comfortably paced walk, around the waterfront Rushbrook Trail to the ship.
What you will see along the way:
Drive through the pretty downtown core of Prince Rupert and take in the diverse styles of architecture and varied scenery. Your route will take you past views of scenic Prince Rupert and by such sights as Service Park, the Museum of Northern British Columbia, the Court House, the Painted City Murals, and Kwinitsa Railway Museum, ultimately arriving at Seal Cove. As you travel, you'll learn more from your guide about this transportation hub that links Canada to the Pacific Northwest and about the storied adventurers and entrepreneurs who founded the city as well as the local 10,000-year-old Tsimshian Nation and Sm'algyax-speaking people.
Lunch:
You'll arrive at a local Mediterranean restaurant in picturesque Seal Cove to receive your picnic box lunch. You may walk to one of the convenient picnic tables or head to the waterfront. Just over an hour is allotted for lunch and independent exploration of this scenic area. Sample menu includes chicken shawarma or falafel wrap (vegetarian), salad, dessert, soft drink and bottled water.
