WHAT YOU VISIT
Cruise Down the Douro River
The Portuguese have been making wine for 2,000 years but it wasn't until a royal proclamation in 1756 decreed that port wine could only come from the Douro region. Wine traders would transport wine from the valley to the wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia on the Douro River. Follow the same route down the river and disembark for a visit at a well-known port wine cellar, where you'll learn about the winemaking process and sample this regional specialty.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Before boarding the boat, you'll stop for photos at two of Porto's most iconic sites: the Cathedral of Porto; built between the 12th and 13th centuries, it features a variety of architectural styles, including Romanesque, Baroque and Gothic. Nearby sits the Church of Clerigos, an 18th century Baroque and Rococo building whose 249-foot-tall tower is the tallest in Portugal.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
A brief panoramic drive brings you into central Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site noted for its architecture and many important ecclesiastical buildings.
