WHAT YOU VISIT
Porto On Your Own
Discover the culture and history of Porto, Portugal's second-largest city, at your own pace. You will be dropped off at a central location and the coach escort will advise you of the pick-up time for the return journey. During your four hours, you can explore the well-preserved Old Town, a maze of steep and narrow cobbled streets that's home to beautiful plazas, churches and houses adorned with colorfully tiled façades.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Porto offers one photo op after another. Some highlights include Old Town's Cathedral of Porto, a city icon that dates back to the 12th and 13th centuries; the Livraria Lello Bookstore where author JK Rowling wrote the first few chapters of 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone,' the Douro River and the many bridges such as the Eiffel-inspired D'Luis Bridge.
LUNCH
When hunger calls, answer it with the 'franceshina,' Porto's traditional sandwich that's filled with ham, sausage and steak, doused in melted cheese and smothered in tomato sauce.
SHOPPING
Porto is a mecca for shoppers. Look for port wine, handcrafted jewelry inspired by the city's iconic azulejos tiles, cork accessories, and items that depict the famous rooster of Barcelos, Portugal's national symbol.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
As you make your way through Porto's Old Town or its more modern streets, it's interesting to note that Porto has its origins in a pre-Roman settlement called Calle or Portus Cale.
