A Walk through Ribeira & Arrabida Bridge Climb
Strenuous Activity
Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
WHAT YOU VISIT
Ribeira Quarter
Embark on a guided walking tour through the UNESCO-listed maze of medieval alleys down to the Douro River promenade, where colorful buildings share the lively area with tascas (taverns). As you stroll along, you'll have views of the impressive Ponte de Dom Luís I, the famous double-deck metal arch bridge that stretches across the Douro River.
Arrabida Bridge Climb
Enjoy a completely different perspective of Porto from the top of the 65-meter-high ((213-feet) Arrábida Bridge, the only one in Europe with expert guides! Certified Guides will provide full safety harnesses and equipment, making it manageable even for those with mild nerves about heights. After you've popped on the safety gear and clipped onto your safety cable, you'll ascend 262 steps (about 18 floors) following a wide, concrete staircase built directly inside the solid concrete arch, flanked by a sturdy handrail. Once at the top, you'll have outstanding views of Porto, Gaia, and the Douro Estuary.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
While walking the Douro riverfront promenade, be sure to capture the medieval and 16th century buildings painted in vibrant shades of mustard yel-low, terracotta red, and pastel blue. Many are adorned with traditional blue and white Portuguese azulejo tiles and feature wrought-iron balconies.

Special Notes
The minimum weight per person is 45 kgs. (100 lbs.). Max weight per person is 90 kgs (198 lbs.).
Minimum age is12 and maximum age 79.
This is a strenuous activity, participants with physical limitations should take this into account.
The tour is recommended only for those in good physical condition. Helmets and climbing gear will be provided.
Not recommended for people who experience vertigo. Pregnant women may not participate. Please do not wear skirts / dresses or lose clothes as you will need to wear harness and climbing gear.
Cameras that record autonomously (like a go-pro) and that are securely attached to the harness, arm, head or chest can be used throughout the vis-it.
Cell phones and cameras cannot be used on the way up and down the stairs. However, they can be taken to the top by the visitor or by the guide in a backpack and returned at the top of the arch to be able to photograph. Before starting the way down, everything is put away again until you are back at the base of the bridge. The reason is to ensure that everyone has their hands free during the way up and down, to hold the handrail and the rope that connects to the steel cable, in order to avoid tripping.
Marathons and other events may take place on Sundays, and as a result, traffic in Porto may be blocked along the Marginal up to Castelo do Queijo, in the Ribeira area, and may also affect traffic on the bridges.
Porto is currently undergoing street works, and road closures or traffic changes may occur without prior notice.
