What you will visit:
Weymouth (driving tour)
A charming seaside resort town in Dorset, Weymouth boasts a historic harbor with brightly painted houses, gas lights and lively quays, a stately Victorian esplanade, and one of Britain's best and sunniest beaches. It was popular with royalty and frequented by King George III between 1789 and 1805, which put one of England's first modern resorts on the map.
Portland (driving tour)
Situated on the Dorset and East Devon Coast, Portland is steeped in maritime history and home to the heritage Portland Bill Lighthouse, an iconic red-and-white striped landmark. Portland offers lovely scenery and a magnificent coastline with a waterfront that hosted sailing events during the 2012 London Olympic Games. Portland stone, a limestone that has been used in the building of such prestigious buildings as the United Nations Headquarters in New York City and London's St. Paul's Cathedral, continues to be quarried here.
What you will see along the way:
Travel through the countryside of Dorset, admiring the rolling green hills dotted with quaint towns and villages. The area is steeped in natural history, with a 200-million-year-old Jurassic Coast, whose remarkable geological value had it named a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site. As you gaze upon historic Portland Harbor, learn how it has been used for over 500 years by the British Royal Navy and is now one of the largest man-made harbors in the world.
Photo Opportunities:
Weymouth Beachfront
Voted one of the best beaches in England, Weymouth's broad sweep of fine golden sand, reputed to make the very best sand castles, has a light surf and wonderful views of the Jurassic Coast as far as the White Nothe cliffs.
