WHAT YOU VISIT
Sugar World
Originally built in 1821 and once known as the Beau Plan Sugar Estate, the museum details the history of sugar in Mauritius and the different stages of sugar production. Learn how sugar cane was cultivated and exported, and the role of slavery on the island. Much of the original machinery including pipes, vats, vessels are still on display including two locomotives and a large wooden barge once used to transport sugar from Mauritius to Madagascar. Following your tour, you'll have the opportunity to sample different sugars and rums in the Sugar World Museum.

Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens
Dating back to the early 18th century, the gardens boast a large collection of indigenous and exotic plants. Species here include the giant Victoria regia water lilies, rare Mascarene plants and the talipot palm, which flowers once every 60 years and dies shortly after.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Have your camera at the ready while visiting Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens-you may catch a glimpse of the camera-shy giant tortoises that live in a colony within the gardens.

SHOPPING
Following your tour of Sugar World, you'll have free time to browse the boutique for souvenirs.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
After visiting the gardens, you'll return to Port Louis for a delightful city drive that takes in China Town, Champ de Mars, the colonial Government House and Parliament Building. A stop at La Citadelle offers breathtaking views of Port Louis harbor and city.
