Seafood lovers rejoice! We have a tour for you.
You're invited on a discovery of Port Lincoln's 'seafood story'. From the early days of the region, to the best fish and chips in town, you'll learn all about this wonderful sea port.
Begin your tour with a fascinating stop at the Axel Stenross Maritime Museum. Built to celebrate the lives of Finnish boat builders, Axel Stenross and Frank Laakso, the museum houses a wide collection of artefacts, relics and photographs, dedicated to the region's rich maritime heritage. Spend some time wandering the indoor and outdoor displays, and don't forget to check out the historic vessels and the operating slipway. You'll also have the chance to hear all about the early days of the tuna fishing industry.
The next stop on your tour is the local marina, home to the largest commercial fishing fleet in Australia. You'll get the chance to explore the marina before being whisked away for a 'seafood lovers' guided tour of a multi fish species processing factory. The factory processes all kinds of seafood from oysters to fish filleting, so you will get the chance to see how they are processed and made ready for sale. But you're not just there to watch, you can also learn a few tricks of the trade as you go. The friendly locals will teach you how to shuck an oyster and peel a prawn like a pro. You'll also witness the famous King George Whiting being filleted at high speeds. And don't forget to sample the in-house smoked fish and pickled seafood on offer.
You may have worked up quite an appetite after viewing all that fresh seafood, so what better way to conclude the tour than with a fresh serving of fish and chips. After lunch, you'll make your way back to the pier to spend the rest of the day as you please.
